ReelDance Call for Entries

ReelDance is currently inviting submissions of Australian and international screen dance work in the following categories*:

  1. single channel (looped for installation)
  2. multi-channel (looped for installation)
  3. screen dance short – under 10mins (single screening)
  4. mid-length screen dance – 10-60mins (single screening)
  5. dance documentary (single screening)
  6. online and/or mobile environments

*Entries must fall within the following definition: the work must contain within its main concerns dance and/or dynamic expressions of movement created specifically for the screen, be it human movement, the dance-like movement of inanimate objects, dance effects achieved through filming or post-production, or abstract motion studies. NOTE: Recordings of live dance performance will not be considered (unless as part of dance documentary).

*Only works created after 1 January 2010 will be considered.

ReelDance is an internationally recognized arts organisation supporting innovative collaborative practice across dance, film and new media art. We provide a forum for dance screen culture, developing and defining this artistic field of practice in Australia and New Zealand, and promoting local work both nationally and internationally.

ReelDance curates, presents and consults on programs of single and multi-screen works for exhibitions, broadcast and festivals. Other activities include professional development for those working in the field of dance screen through workshops and forums, creating distribution opportunities for Australian dance filmmakers. Also, ReelDance has established the Moving Image Collection, a significant archive of Australian and New Zealand dance screen works.

FRAMEWORKS Call for Submissions

FRAMEWORKS accepts submissions of original works of choreography for the camera, less than 20 minutes in length and made within the last 7 years. Videos of staged work and documentary films are fabulous but won’t be reviewed in this series. On average, 30-75 films are submitted for each screening, and 4-7 are selected. Submission is and always will be free.

Deadline for the Winter 2012 Series is January 31st. Please note this is the received by deadline.

International Videodance Festival of Burgundy Announces Call for Entries

The International Video Dance Festival of Burgundy (France) announces a new call for works in preparation for its forth festival in May 2012. The festival is a platform for short video dance (screendance, dance for camera) projects that explore the dynamic possibilities of movement created specifically for the camera/screen. Works will be selected by an international jury composed of professional artists and scholars involved in video dance.

The festival seeks video dance works less than 15 minutes in length for its official selection, which will be the featured event of the festival. Documentaries and live performance recordings are not accepted.

Seeking High School Dance Films for Capturing Motion NYC

DFA’s First Annual High School Student Film Competition

Application

Dance Films Association seeks New York City high school student dance film submissions in conjunction with the 2012 Dance on Camera Festival co-sponsored by the Film Society of Lincoln Center to be held Jan 27-31, 2012. Dance Camera West is excited to be partnering with Dance Films Association in it’s first Annual High School Student Film Competition: Capturing Motion NYC. A jury will choose among the submissions for a special student film program during the festival, with the top film selection to screen at Lincoln Center. As a partner in supporting future filmmakers, Dance Camera West will be hosting the winner of the NYC competition at it’s annual film festival in June 2012. The selected film maker will be a guest of DCW and their film showcased in one of the many screening venues in Los Angeles for the 11th annual Dance Camera West Film Festival.

Submissions should be of 1-5 minutes in length. The jury is looking for documentary, narrative, or art films acknowledging the relationship between dance and camera.

The Asian American Arts Alliance announced the first of their Fall ‘11 series of Brainstorm! discussions, ‘Produce and Distribute Your Own Film’, a creative conversation with esteemed directors and producers on how to distribute your own film. Based on the case study of ”Scalp” by director and producer Paul Chau and moderated by Mridu Chandra (coordinating producer & post-production supervisor, “Women, War & Peace”, and Adjunct Professor at NYU’s SCPS Film, Video & Broadcasting Department), the discussion will be informative and provide helpful tips from experienced and successful filmmakers.
